Adrian Frederick "H" Smith is an English guitarist, best known as a member of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, with whom he wrote songs and performed live backing vocals. Smith grew up in London and became interested in rock music at the age of 15. He soon befriended Iron Maiden's future guitarist Dave Murray, who inspired him to come to the guitar. After leaving school at the age of 16, he formed a group called Urchin, which he led until they disbanded in 1980. He joined the Iron Maiden in November 1980, replacing Dennis Stratton. After a brief solo project called ASAP, he left Iron Maiden in 1990 and after a year hiatus, he formed the group The Untouchables and then Psycho Motel. In 1997, Psycho Motel was suspended when Smith joined the group of former Iron Maiden leader Bruce Dickinson. Smith and Dickinson will return to the Iron Maiden in 1999, after which the group has achieved even more success.
